Job Description

Title: Director of Engineering

Environment: CNC metals manufacturing

Summary: ( this opportunity is located near the Quad Cities area of Iowa - Relocation assistance is available for the right experience in a CNC precision machining environment )

The Director of Engineering maintains an active-oriented mindset and a focus on exceeding expectations, who operates with vision and integrity. The Director of Engineering drives technical solutions and provides leadership and direction to product launch teams responsible for development and execution of project scope, cost, and schedule from concept through production of precision machined components and assemblies. This position reports to the VP of Operations and partners with critical stakeholders including customers, sales, supply chain, quality, and manufacturing to ensure goals and objectives are met.

To be successful as a director of engineering, you should have exceptional leadership, communication, and project management skills, years of management experience, and a belief in developing the skills and talents of others. The ideal candidate will have experience in identifying and navigating organizational changes, a keen interest in international trends in engineering and leadership, and above-average emotional intelligence.

Roles & Responsibilities:

* Leads the organization in developing and maintaining cost models and provides inputs to product costing to enable timely and accurate quotes to customers.
* Cradle to grave responsibility in leading product launch teams to effectively launch precision machined components and assemblies through the New Product Introduction Process (NPI).
* Develop, implement and maintain policies, standards, and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the organization.
* Maintains as the subject matter expert of machining and automation processes to ensure implementation and use of state-of-the-art technologies for optimum quality & cost performance.
* Fosters a continuous improvement mindset for correcting non-conformance as well as driving efficiencies into existing processes, methods and procedures.
* Provides technical expertise and guidance to engineering teams, production associates and top management.
* Supports established organizational objectives by developing goals and strategies.
* Maintains good relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

* Plans and coordinates the work of engineering staff.
* Oversees engineering staff and ensures that they meet goals and objectives.
* Recruits additional engineering staff as needed.
* Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
* Provides training and mentoring as needed.

Required Skills/Abilities:

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Excellent managerial and supervisory skills.
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Extensive technical knowledge of engineering and product development.
* Excellent financial skills and ability to analyze financial data.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
* Proficient in ERP
* Experience in a CNC metals manufacturing environment or equivalent

Education and Experience:

* Bachelor's degree in engineering required; Master's degree in Engineering or Business Administration preferred.
* At least ten years of related managerial experience required.
* A minimum of ten years in the Machine Tool Technology trade.
* Working experience of ISO9001/AS9100 preferred.
