Job Summary:

The Departments of Dance and Africana Studies at Oberlin College invite applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences in Africana Dance and Integrated Arts Practice. We seek an accomplished artist-scholar whose cross-disciplinary scholarship, artistic research, and movement practice emphasize African diasporic traditions, broadly defined to include Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, and Afro-European communities. Candidates with demonstrable artistic research profile and significant record of choreographic works or publications engaging critical cross-cultural or decolonial perspectives are especially encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to practitioners who demonstrate the potential to develop an active research program that engages undergraduate students. Initial appointment to this position will be for a term of four years, beginning Fall 2025, and will carry the rank of Assistant Professor.

Responsibilities:

The incumbent will teach the standard teaching load (4.5 courses per year) in the general area of Africana Dance and Integrated Arts Practice, including a mix of introductory and advanced technique classes, creative workshops, and theory courses on dance history and contemporary practice. Additionally, they will contribute to departmental activities in both departments, such as directing concerts and mentoring student choreography.

The incumbent will also be expected to engage in sustained scholarly research and/or other creative work appropriate to the position and participate in the full range of faculty responsibilities, including academic advising, mentoring undergraduate research and service on committees.

Required qualifications:

Among the qualifications required for appointment is the PhD or equivalent terminal degree (in hand by the first semester of the academic year 2025). Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching and the ability to perform high-quality cross-disciplinary research. Compensation:

Within the range established for this position, the salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes a competitive benefits package.
